“I am one of eight children and Sundays in our house meant church and Sunday roast. Between the two, while the potatoes were in the oven, my dad played his records, good and loud. He was Welsh and loved to sing along. With furrowed brow he earnestly emulated his musical heroes, Mario Lanza, Harry Secombe, Val Doonican, all those proper singers with great songs.
