John Leckie

John Leckie

The Electric Blues Radio Show

Sunday 8-10pm

John Leckie is a legendary British record producer having started at Abbey Road studios nearly 50 years ago!

Since then he’s made acclaimed albums with XTC, The Adverts, Magazine, Simple Minds, The Fall, Felt and The Stones Roses. In the nineties, it was albums with The Verve, Ride, Cast, Kula Shaker, Radiohead and Muse. He’s done records in Africa, India and in the USA worked with My Morning Jacket, The Posies, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Los Lobos and Dr John.

He was first introduced to Boogaloo Radio by Brix Smith who did a two-part programme on John’s career and when asked to do his own live show jumped at the chance of playing two hours of Electric Blues music every week and putting it out there for listeners to discover and appreciate.

“From the age of thirteen, I been into Blues and educated myself in its history and variations. I was lucky to be a teenager in the 60s and listened to Blues evolving into Rock into Psychedelic into Indie and everything we have today. “The Blues are the roots and the other musics the fruits” said Willie Dixon. I’m also interested in the evolution of Electric instruments with guitar and harmonica and forever fascinated by the levels of distortion and saturation used to express emotion in sound.”

Each show has a special theme and is broadcast live from the garden of the Boogaloo pub in Highgate London. It’s all-electric and often contains unreleased tracks and interviews and chat with fellow Blues buddies.
