Dan Carrier
Digit Soundsystem
Saturday 6-8pm
There’s nothing the Dig It Sound System team like to do more than pitch up with a set of their magnificent speakers and spend the day walking through the musical genres that show off the mighty power of their woofers and tweeters.
The Dig It Sound System show aims to take that feeling to the airwaves.
Playing ‘sound system’ music is vague enough to allow for flexibility in what you will hear each week. The street party/festival influence on Dig It, which comprises of Dan Carrier, Matt G, Colin and Carolyn, means they like to saunter through genres. They chase a range of bass-driven music, ranging from reggae and dub through funk and hip hop and then into breaks, beats, licks, house, drum and bass – all filtered through a layer of samples and mash-ups.
That’s the basis of this weekly session – some soothing sounds to smooth away the crinkles and wrinkles of a working week, and then moving on to the bangers to get your Friday kick-started.
During the day, Dan is a journalist at the Camden New Journal – so expect the odd-sounding story during the set about what’s bitten the paper that week.
Each week, Dan will to dip into a genre and mix it up, finding the links between bass lines and samples, drum patterns and horns, flipping from its roots to where it is today.
One of Boogaloo Radio’s strengths lies in its diversity – something Dan certainly brings to the station.
