Jesse Malin at 100 Club

Sep 18, 2019

The first time we met Jesse Malin was around 15 years ago. He was playing London and invited our spiritual leader Shane MacGowan to guest on a fast and furious run through of Elvis Costello’s old classic ‘Oliver’s Army’.

September 18th 2019 we were back in the 100 Club to see Jesse  Malin, this time without our spiritual leader who is resting but with the head honcho of Boogaloo Radio Jenny Crothers and Henry Shaw- aka ‘The Dancefloor Troubadour’.
The sold out show was the release of Jesse’s new album Sunset Kids- he opens with a bluesy ballad and then proceeds to rip the club apart with the rest of his set.
At one point he even covered our absent spiritual leader with a brilliant version of ‘If I should fall from grace with God’ complete with a full horn section and  later dedicated a beautiful tender song for and about our missing spiritual leader called appropriately enough ‘Shane’.
Jesse was just as good as ever and has excelled over the years. Tonight was a testament to that.
Keep your eyes peeled for his future appearances on Boogaloo Radio when we will be sure to get him to do a takeover and rip through his tremendous  back catalogue.
Long live Jesse Malin, “Queens baby, Queens”.
